The Day Care Center for People with Disabilities “OLOI EMEIS”, under the auspices of the Municipality of Elefsina, carried out a very successful information and awareness-raising campaign for autism, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day. This important initiative was supported by a number of personalities from the business world as well as representatives of the political and journalistic world, while the entire team of “Βeautiful People” PR Events and the CEO of Haris Sianidis, who are always helpful in important social actions, were present. The President of the Day Care Center for People with Disabilities “OLOI EMEIS”, Ms. Afroditi Farmakis and the center’s staff warmly thanked everyone who actively participated in the event, which aimed to promote the acceptance of diversity and strengthen social cohesion, with a vision of a truly inclusive society.
The action began with brief greetings and was followed by a symbolic walk, which started from the KDIF (Afon Kypraiou 31) and ended at People’s Square. The participants, holding blue balloons, a symbol of autism, walked through the city’s main streets, accompanied by musicians with percussion instruments. Creating a special and moving moment, the blue balloons were released into the sky, conveying the message of hope and acceptance of diversity. The event was attended by young and old, in visual arts, musical events and a live performance by the African music group “Yeelen – Dance & Music from West Africa”, sending strong messages of empathy, acceptance and combating prejudice.
The “OLOI EMEIS” Center has as its main focus the adaptation of the beneficiary to the wider society, the prevention of his social isolation and the improvement of those skills that allow for social integration and the increase of his negotiating and assertive ability, so that he can exercise his rights as an equal citizen. It is aimed at people over 14 years of age with psycho-intellectual weakness and secondary mental disorders and subsequent physical health problems, as well as their families, whom it includes in its psychosocial interventions. The interventions of “OLOI EMEIS” aim at psycho-emotional improvement, skill development, establishing and strengthening social bonds, and creating the conditions for a smooth social integration.
