The acclaimed Greek production “The Christmas Carols” has been honored with three IRIS Awards at the 2026 Hellenic Film Academy Awards, transforming its nominations into major industry recognition.
Directed by Christos Kanakis, the box office phenomenon received IRIS Awards in the categories of Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup, Hair & Special Effects Design, further cementing its reputation as one of the most remarkable Greek film productions of the year.
Following an extraordinary theatrical run, “The Christmas Carols” concluded its box office journey as one of Greece’s biggest commercial successes of 2025, selling more than 470,000 tickets, achieving consecutive sold-out screenings, and remaining at the top of the box office for weeks without losing its leading position. The film now ranks among the ten most successful Greek films of the past decade, with the Hellenic Film Academy recognizing this achievement through three prestigious IRIS Awards.

Behind every frame, costume, and on-screen transformation stood a team of talented artists whose creativity and dedication brought the film’s unique vision to life. Liza Tsouloupa’s production design transported audiences into a world balancing fantasy and drama, while Triada Papadaki’s costumes gave each character a distinctive visual identity. Katerina Varthalitou and Chronis Tzimos elevated the film through exceptional makeup artistry and special effects, creating some of its most memorable cinematic moments.
The award-winning production was executive produced by Tasos Papanastasiou through Main Character Entertainment, with Marinos Charalambous serving as producer through Avaton Films. The film was directed by Christos Kanakis, while Loris Loizides wrote the screenplay and stars in the leading role.
Together, the creative team transformed Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” into a contemporary, deeply Greek, and emotionally compelling cinematic experience.

“Winning three IRIS Awards is a moment of immense pride for everyone involved in this film. Liza, Triada, Katerina, and Chronis poured their hearts into this project, and having their work recognized by the Hellenic Film Academy means everything to us,” said the film’s production team.

“The Christmas Carols” is ultimately a story of redemption, transformation, and the enduring power of the human heart—a film that began as a timeless Christmas tale and evolved into one of the most celebrated Greek cinematic productions of the year.
