This Christmas, the most timeless story of redemption ever written returns to the big screen, more timely and more “ours” than ever. The film “A Christmas Carol”, directed by Christos Kanakis, has already won the box office bet by being the number one in sales (47,286 tickets), since its very first week of screening (4/12-7/12), offering the Greek audience an experience that combines the nostalgia of the classic with the freshness of modern cinema. The film has nothing to envy from major foreign productions thanks to Executive Producer, Tasos Papanastasiou, the production company “Avaton Films” and producer Marinos Charalambous. Mr. Papanastasiou referred to the trust he had from the beginning in the entire team that undertook the execution of this project and that his sole guideline was the creation of a Greek film where the story, the image, the sound and the performances would refer to an international-level production. “A Christmas Carol”, written and artistically edited by Loris Loizidis, is a bold, moving and deeply human adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, adapted to Greek conditions, with a protagonist that we will love to… hate, before finally embracing him.

This project marks the dynamic debut of Tassos Papanastasiou in the field of production. His next, ambitious plans are already underway, as discussions have begun with well-known American companies, where in collaboration with his production company in Dubai, Main Character Entertainment, they will give life to films that will star in the global charts. Lycurgus and the Three Spirits. At the center of the story is Lycurgus (played uniquely by Loris Loizides), an eccentric, hard-hearted and proverbially greedy man. For Lycurgus, Christmas is not a celebration of love, but an annoying interruption of everyday life and an unnecessary waste of money and emotions. He lives isolated in his own gray world, indifferent to the needs of those around him and mocking the joy that floods the city. However, everything changes on Christmas Eve. On a night that oscillates between dream and reality, Lykourgos is visited by three uninvited and mysterious spirits. Through a journey through time, to the past that hurts him, to the present that ignores him and to the future that scares him, the hero is confronted with his choices. Will he manage to recover his lost humanity before it is too late?

An “All-Star” Cast. The film is fortunate to have one of the strongest casts of recent years, bringing together top names in Greek theater and television on the big screen. Yiannis Bezos, with his imposing displacement, while the talented Orestis Chalkias and Gioulika Skafida add depth and emotion to their roles. The puzzle of characters is ideally completed by Konstantinos Danikas, Tasos Palantzidis, Kostas Koronaios, Dimitris Kapetanakos, Amalia Kavali and Tasos Kostis. “A Christmas Carol” is not just an adaptation. It is a film that speaks “Greek”, not only in language but also in the soul and has managed to create an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the good old days of cinema, when films “spoke” directly to the heart. It is a story about a second chance. About how a person who has forgotten how to love can learn the meaning of generosity again. Against the backdrop of a decorated but also full of contrasts Greece, the film offers plenty of laughter, but also moments of deep emotion, balancing between humor and drama. The film is being screened nationwide. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Lycurgus transform and remember that, ultimately, Christmas is a state of mind.
