The great performer Glykeria needs no introduction. She has served and honored Greek song for over four decades and, with a remarkable career abroad, has traveled Greek music throughout the Mediterranean, deservingly earning the designation “The Voice of Greece”. She is one of the most familiar and beloved voices of Greek song and has a vast personal repertoire, extending from Smyrnaean, folk and rebetiko to contemporary art. She has collaborated with the country’s most important performers, while remaining at the forefront, dominating the stage with her talent, warmth and brio, daring and moving from one musical genre to another effortlessly, equally true, equally authentic. In her live performances, she manages to excite the audience with her songs, to transmit the pulse of her successes, to move and shock, and this is what she intends to do every Thursday and Saturday at the highly renovated music scene “Odos Lysiou”, a “jewel” store for the historic neighborhood of Plaka.
With her is the expressive Sofia Papazoglou, with her characteristic voice and intense interpretive passion, the dynamic Haris Makris, one of the most talented and beloved performers of the younger generation, who stands out for the power and emotion exuded by the fresh voice of Christiana Galiatsou, full of sensitivity and dynamism, flanked by a large orchestra. The program —curated by Stelios and Kostas Photiadis— naturally moves between folk, artistic and traditional, with an emphasis on live communication with the audience and on arrangements that honor the memory and present of Greek song. “Odos Lysiou” has become a trademark and has given life to the historic alleys of Plaka.
