Giannis Petras is one of the most brilliant examples of Greek excellence at an international level. Originally from Piraeus and with only four years of presence in Dubai, he has managed to stand out as a leading lawyer in international corporate and maritime law, in the largest law firm in the Middle East. The young Greek lawyer, with an academic career that stands out, as he is an honors graduate of the Thessaloniki Law School, with two master’s degrees with honors in Athens and the University of Cambridge, was a scholar of the Greek Shipowners’ Association.
Beyond his illustrious legal career, Gannis Petras has already left his mark on the international scene as the first Greek to be selected worldwide for the prestigious nine-month “Dubai Business Associates” (DBA) program, an initiative under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Sheikh of Dubai. His selection for the “DBA” was not only honorary and extremely difficult, with an acceptance rate of only 0.5% of candidates. Within this program, Gannis Petras became one of the “future global leaders” that Dubai selects to unite their country with the Emirate, building ties on a business and cultural level. During the program, Gannis Petras was awarded the “Outstanding Project Award” and was invited to the Sheikh’s private residence earlier this year, where he had the special honor of meeting him in person.
Today, Gannis Petras is the elected Secretary General of the “Hellenic Business Council” in Dubai, an institutional body established at the initiative of the Greek Embassy in the UAE and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. Through this role, he actively contributes to connecting the business communities of Greece and Dubai, strengthening the economic and cultural relations between the two countries. At the same time, he remains deeply connected to Greece, which he visits frequently: he is the founder of the National Moot Court Competition, the largest student legal education institution in the country, which has been held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Justice. With an eye on the future and a vision to strengthen Greece’s role on the international legal and business map, Giannis Petras represents the new generation of “future global leaders”. It is no coincidence that his dynamic presence in business and social events in Dubai and his warm Mediterranean approach have led friends and associates to call him “Dubai’s Greek Lawyer”.
