Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis welcomed World Wrestling Champion Giorgos Kougioumtsidis to his office and congratulated the phenomenon of Greek Wrestling for his great success, emphasizing that the Ministry and the state will always be by the side of the gold champion! The meeting was attended by his coach Themis Iakovidis and the Secretary General of the Hellenic Wrestling Federation and Olympic Champion Kostas Thanos. Giorgos Kougioumtsidis warmly thanked Mr. Vroutsis for his practical support. “I would like to thank the Minister, who is by my side and shows it in practice. This great support fills me with great joy and gives me strength to continue, for my great goal which is a medal at the Olympic Games. I would like to thank all the Greeks from the bottom of my heart for the great love they showed me”, emphasized George Kougioumtsidis. An athlete who raised the Greek flag high, who achieved something as great as the gold medal, which was missing from Greece! The President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos, also extended his warmest congratulations, welcoming World Wrestling Champion George Kougioumtsidis, who was accompanied by his coach Themis Iakovidis, the Secretary General of the Hellenic Wrestling Federation, Olympic Champion and member of the Hellenic Wrestling Federation, Kostas Thanos, and the Deputy President Dimitris Trampakulas, for his great success at the Zagreb World Championship. “You gave us great joy and happiness for the first gold medal in a World Championship that wrestling has brought. I hope we can celebrate together in Los Angeles.” His coach, Themis Iakovidis, said of his athlete: “Giorgos is a real fighter, he has morals, he has respect for his opponents and he is completely dedicated to what he does. He has been wrestling since he was 6 years old and wrestling is his whole life.”
